Community

The people you will meet at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church are friendly, caring, compassionate, and generous. You will feel the welcome of the congregation in worship and in service. You will be loved for who you are; no judgments.

We affectionately call ourselves “The Flock” because we are disciples of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd who leads us, nurtures us, cares for us and protects us. Who, with the greatest love of all, was sent as the final sacrifice to free us from the bondage of our Sin. Our community rejoices in this and we live our lives seeking to reject the sins of this Kingdom, to live in joyful service to others; especially to those in need, and to share this Good News with all people.

Each of us comes to the altar, broken in so many different ways. But God’s promise, the Good News, is that through the grace that is given freely to us, we can trust in the salvation given to us through the New Covenant of Jesus Christ.

Worship

Good Shepherd’s worship services follow a liturgical pattern of worship that incorporates four sections: Gathering, Word, Meal and Sending.

Our 8:30 am service is intimate and uses language that is familiar to all. The liturgy is shortened and less formal and the music is energetic and upbeat.

Our 10:30 am service is beautifully liturgical, full of energy and is more “traditional.”

Gathering

We are called to worship in community and we celebrate the power of Christ’s presence with us when we do! We strive to build relationships with each other and with our community, as well as make our relationship with God a priority in our lives.

Word

At the heart of worship is the reading of the Holy Scriptures. We hear the Gospel and grapple with its meaning in our lives. We hear the Good News proclaimed throughout the service, especially in the Pastor’s message, but also in the music that we hear.

Meal

The pinnacle of the service is Holy Eucharist. It is a time that we come together to partake of the sacrificed body and blood of Christ that is in the bread and wine. This Sacrament was given to us by Jesus, and we are reminded of the absolute love that God has for us in the words “The body of Christ broken for you,” and “The blood of Christ shed for you.”

Sending

Perhaps the most important part of the service is the Sending. This is the charge, come from God, for us to go into the world, to heal the sick, feed the poor, clothe the naked and bring the hope of the resurrected Christ to all who are in need. This is God’s mission for our community and our world, and it is through our hands that it is accomplished.

Service

Because of the joy of knowing the love of God and because we are charged by Jesus to be stewards of each other, Good Shepherd has committed to service with our community and with the world.

  • Our food pantry offers relief for those who may need just a little bit more food to get them through
  • We actively participate in providing meals for the residents of the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
  • Our parishioners actively provide communion to our members who are homebound or are unable to attend regularly
  • Our Property Committee diligently takes care of the maintenance, upkeep and improvements of our beautiful, historic facility
  • Our youth are actively involved in our worship services and in volunteering in our community.
  • Because of God’s call to take our faith into our everyday lives, many of our members are active in volunteering for various organizations in the community.

This is faith in action!
